The Y-building (2016)
Based on drawings by the Spanish artist Pablo Picasso (1881-1973) the artist Carl Nesjar (1920-2015) from Larvik, Norway made the wall decoration «The Fishermen» on the end wall of the «Y building» (architect Erling Viksjø) in Akersgata, Oslo in 1970. Nesjar and Picasso worked together for many years and made art like this, a motive sandblasted onto a concrete facade. The Y-block - a part of Oslo’s government quarter that was hit by a car-bomb during the terror attacks on the 22nd of July 2011 - is now scheduled for demolition. «The Fishermen» mural will be given a new haven in the new government quarter. I took this photograph during an event in 2016 marking the 5th anniversary of the terror attacks. Seventy seven people were killed in the bombing in Oslo and the massacre at the island of Utøya on 22 July 2011.
